The Purpose of School Essay Example for Free

The Purpose of School Essay As I would see it, the motivation behind school is to instruct, not educate, understudies in specific subject matters picked by those of the Board of Education so as to make ‘functioning’ individuals from ‘normal’ society. The contrast between to instruct and to educate is the means by which the information is introduced. To instruct is ‘to raise (a kid, truly or intellectually), back, feed, backing, or produce (plants or animals’ essentially to utilize verbal techniques, for example, addresses in a class setting, or recognition for small kid to make a particular range of abilities implanted in an individual, be it data or standards of conduct. To educate is ‘to appear, announce, illustrate; educate, teach, train; appoint, endorse, direct’ fundamentally to utilize physical intends to make a comprehension of how something is performed. A typical case of the two would be college and school. College is known for its reading material and extremely composed/perceptible learning styles while school is known as being more active. A much increasingly basic model would be a child’s excursion to come to comprehend to avoid a hot oven. A parent could verbally caution them of the perils, however just once the youngster has learned through physical association does the admonition stay in his psyche. With these definitions, the title ‘teacher’ is misdirecting in light of the fact that those at the front of the room are not utilizing strategies to include the understudies in learning, they are just demonstrating a PowerPoint and having the understudies compose it in their journal; ‘Educator’ would be a progressively suitable term to characterize the individuals who are employed to just transfer negligent information in light of the fact that except if there is a physical viewpoint, it is more earnestly to learn. One model would be sports. Watching Gretzky play hockey all day every day doesn't imply that you will have the option to skate like him on the off chance that you have never skated. Just via preparing your muscles and learning by acting will anybody start to skate like an expert. Another model would figure out how to play an instrument or figuring out how to communicate in a language. Essentially watching recordings or taking notes on different people groups learning doesn't comprise you learning those aptitudes in light of the fact that there are no tangible connections. In History class, what is preventing an educator from tossing out the PowerPoint’s, and having understudies showcase a progressive fight? Old recordings with rambling old voices are not including understudies in what the video is introducing. Naming their schoolmates after pioneers of rival sides, and showcasing the fight would be both intelligent, and make a superior visual for what truly occurred during that fight. These strategies are not accessible to the understudies on the grounds that ‘teachers’ don't make them accessible. Field trips, science tests and intuitive gathering ventures are a few instances of potential instructing methodologies that are utilized sparingly. My own science instructor set the roof ablaze during a trial and we needed to empty the room. While we as a whole had a decent giggle, we as a whole associated with quite a while what synthetic substances not to blend on the off chance that we would not like to singe our roofs. Out of three and a half long stretches of tutoring, very little will be held over the significant stretches of time, not to mention the 5 months to tests. What is recollected is the divergent power clarified while out traveling to Canada’s Wonderland, and encountering it on a crazy ride. Field trips are noteworthy and instructive, and they encourage understudies what instructors can't. Experience has consistently been a favorable position of human instinct and will consistently be a piece of human instinct. Sitting in a work area composing words not our own isn't the way we as individuals should learn. Before, apprenticeships were the manner by which individuals learned, by truly playing out the assignment again and again, permitting the cerebrum to learn, however the muscles. By testing understudies on their capacity to gain proficiency with a similar route as every other person removes the opportunity and energy of information, changing what could have been an excited brain starving for information, into a case loaded up with what a gathering of people decided most of individuals should know. As I would like to think, school isn't a spot for learning; it is a spot for instruction. School is a limited space wherein understudies are relied upon to comply with one set gauges. The school building is a house that its occupants detest, yet keep on strolling the limited lobbies like mice in a cheddar labyrinth while others ‘guide’ us to where we should wind up.

FREE FOOD!

FREE FOOD! This morning I got a frantic call from my mother. MOM: Is it true? ME: What? MOM: Youre not really kicked out of MIT, were you? ME: Yeah, Ive already returned my MIT mug to the Coop. MOM: THATS NOT FUNNY. Okay, so, in retrospect it may not have been the best idea to freak my mother out, seeing as she already has high blood pressure. (Tomorrow morning Ill be getting another phone call: THAT IS A FAMILY SECRET!) But guys, Im really not leaving MIT. Not yet, anyway. Well see once classes start on Wednesday. (Im still kidding! Oh man, Im a terrible daughter.) The article was created at The Tech booth at the Activities Fair, where they took anyones picture and name and stuck it in seamlessly. (The gender pronouns didnt come out too well, though.) While the article itself is not true, I will say the picture very much is, and I did enjoy all the ridiculous amounts of free food I got this week. In that particular picture Im eating cake (white with buttercream, to be technical, because I miss my job) also from The Tech booth, as well as popcorn from the Lecture Series Committee. Im working off of a breakfast of granola bars and passion fruit icees from the Health Faire, too. All the meals during Discover Mechanical Engineering were entirely paid for (as was the program itself), which included a night out to Bartleys. On the first day of Orientation Susan Hockfield spoke in Killian Court while we munched on bagels and muffins; later there was free food in our dining halls for the rest of the day. One late night Colin 10 and I walked into New House and were caught completely by surprise by blueberry Eggos and pancakes. Tuesday brought a party at the Stata center hosted by several of MIT students groups that included face painting, belly dancing, and of course, more food; and dont forget that last night the entire class of 2010 got down on the tiniest dance floor floating down the Charles River, working off the pizza, nachos and smoothies provided in part by SaveTFP, as well as the free dessert. Basically, Jason 09 (one of the guys who drove the free freshman shuttle from the airport) said it best: If youre paying for food in the first three weeks, youre do ing something wrong. Orientation lasts around a week, during which you go to events to (for lack of a better word) orient you with being an MIT student. Free food aside, its pretty easy to have a great time, since classes havent started yet. More than that, though, it helps you realize just how many opportunities MIT students are privy to. The Academics Midway provided information about all the majors, as well as internships and job fairs, through which I wandered wide-eyed and bushy-tailed and continued to have no idea what I was doing with my life. Over a hundred student groups were present at the Activities Midway alone, where I got information about everything from the hippocratic society (complete with Skittle pills) to chocolate science. At the same time, youre meeting so many new people, who are so friendly and ready to help you out. For women, there are spa parties, movie nights, and information sessions almost every night about having a uterus at MIT. And of course, these opportunities all came with free food. Free food was also present at Next House dorm rush, where all the freshmen were taken around the dorm to check out the different wings each with members of the wing talking about what its like to live there, stereotypes of the wing, etc etc. including serving free food from smoothies to red bean buns. After we toured, we were put in random order from 1-136 and allowed to pick a room with our roommate, if we had one. Thanks to a pretty low number in the lottery, Im in an excellent double with the view of the river, right near the bathroom and the elevator, in 3rd East. After we got ourselves into a wing, they took us out for dinner, from pizza to Greek food. Its been a good week for my stomach. Frat rush also started today. Which means events from paintballing to go-kart racings. And especially, more free food for me, even though Im not pledging (as much as I may want to). Which means nothing, not even this dismal weather weve been having, can get me down. Take that, weather machine. (Its said theres a weather machine that makes it warm and beautiful when the prefrosh are at MIT and cold and ugly when they leave; apparently it rained during CPW, so maybe the weather machine is broken anyway. Problem is, this weather is like winter for me. Boston weather is going to destroy me faster than Yoshimi battling pink robots.)

The Issues That Postmodern Parents Face

Parents today face significant challenges when it comes to raising children, and many of those issues were totally unheard of 50 years ago. In fact, many of these issues involve technology and gadgets that didnt even exist a few decades ago. Sending your child to the right school might be one solution, as a proper educational environment is more controlled and in line with your core values. Lets look at some of these issues and how they impact your choice of a school. Cell Phones When parents raised their sons and daughters back in the 70s and 80s, we didnt have cell phones. Now, most people would say they dont know how we lived without them. Having the immediacy of contact through voice, text messages, and video chat is reassuring to a parent — not to mention the ability to locate your child at the  touch of a button. Unfortunately, cell phones often raise other issues for parents. Many parents wonder who their children are constantly texting and chatting with. They worry about whether the kids are sexting or sending inappropriate pictures using an app that the parents have never even heard of, and parents especially worry about the potential for cyberbullying.   Sometimes school can help. Many schools limit cell phone use during the school day while others use them as a teaching tool, reducing the chances of them being misused during the school day. Even more important, many schools teach the proper use of mobile technology. Even if a digital citizenship course isnt available, cell phone use is often mitigated simply because of constant supervision and students being too engaged in classes to have time to goof off on their phones.   At private schools, in particular, the small size of classes, low student to teacher ratio, and the school environment itself all lend to the fact that students really cannot hide anything they are doing. Its both a matter of respect and one of privacy and safety. Private schools take your childs safety and security very seriously. Its everybodys responsibility — students,  teachers,  and staff — to be aware of whats going on around them and to take appropriate action. Developing character, respect for others and a sense of community are core values in most private schools. You also cant use your phone to get into trouble if youre using it to study. Many private schools are finding ways to incorporate cell phones and tablets into the learning process. Bullying Bullying is a serious issue of harassment  and can have negative consequences if gone unnoticed. Fortunately, most private schools train teachers to identify and address bullying, and also empower students to take responsibility for living in a welcoming and supportive environment. In fact, many students escape situations of bullying by switching schools and attending private school.  Ã‚   Terrorism   Terrorism used to seem like something that happened in other parts of the world, but in the past few decades, the United States has suffered from some major terrorist attacks and threats. Now, that fear is all too close to home. How can you keep your child safe? Many schools have installed metal detectors and hired more security. Some families have even considered enrolling at private schools as a means of protection. With many private schools offering gated communities, 24/7 security patrols, constant supervision, and considerable funding available to ensure that campuses are protected, the added cost of tuition may feel like a worthy investment.   Shootings Acts of terrorism may seem like an extreme concern for some, but theres another form of school violence that many parents are growing increasingly afraid of: school shootings. Two of the five deadliest shootings in American history took place at educational institutions. But, the silver lining from these tragedies is that they have forced schools to be more proactive in preventing shootings, and schools have become more likely to prepare for what to do should there be an active shooter situation. Active shooter drills are common at schools, where students and faculty are put into mock situations to simulate a shooter on campus. Each school develops its own protocols and safety precautions in order to help keep its community safe and protected.   Smoking, Drugs, and Drinking Teens have always experimented, and for many, smoking, drugs, and drinking seems like no big deal, unfortunately. Todays children arent just using cigarettes and beer. With marijuana becoming legalized in some states, vaping has become trendy, and high-end cocktails of drugs are easier to get than ever. Children today are becoming increasingly savvy about ways in which they can get high. And the media doesnt help, with endless movies and television shows portraying students partying and experimenting on a regular basis. Fortunately, tons of research and education have changed the way we parents view substance abuse. Many schools have taken a proactive approach as well to ensure that their students learn the consequences and dangers of substance abuse. Most private schools, in particular, have zero tolerance policies in place when it comes to substance abuse. Cheating With the increasing competitiveness of college admission, students are starting to look for every opportunity to get ahead. Unfortunately for some students, that means cheating. Private schools tend to emphasize original thinking and writing as part of their requirements. That makes cheating harder to pull off. Besides, if you cheat in private school, you will be disciplined and possibly expelled. Your children quickly learn that cheating is unacceptable behavior. Looking into the future, issues such as sustainability and the environment will probably be very high on most parents list of concerns. How we guide and direct our children is a critical part of parenting. Choosing the right educational environment is a major part of that process.

`` Weapons, Technology Determination And Ancient Warfare ``

Technological Determination and Hoplites Logically, it makes sense that the army with the most advanced technology would win battles against a less equipped one. However, in his paper titled â€Å"Weapons, Technology Determination and Ancient Warfare,† Fernando Echeverria Rey brings to light the paradox of this idea in ancient warfare, as well as undermine the modern idea of ‘technological determinism’ by claiming that it does not have an ancient equivalent. His argument approaches the study of ancient warfare from different perspectives as he â€Å"[offers] alternative ways to explain technological and tactical change in warfare† (Echeverria 2010: 24). Echeverria Rey makes strong points for his arguments and supports his ideas clearly. While†¦show more content†¦While the ‘political’ level and ‘structural’ level entail that â€Å"ancient communities were determined by military factors† (Echeverria 2010:22) and that these military factors â€Å"produce and explain broader socio-political change† (Echeverria 2010:22) respectively. By focusing in on the ‘battlefield’ level in his paper, Echeverria Rey stresses the distinction between these three levels and maintains clarity in his argument. He supports his argument by also putting â€Å"to the test the assumptions, that first some kinds of weapons and tactics are objectively ‘superior’ to others and that secondly, societies are always trying to create or import such superior weapons and tactics† (Echeverria 2010:24.) While hoplites may not be the epidemy of ancient warfare technological innovation, they are an important part of the history of ancient warfare and exemplify Echeverria Rey’s argument. A hoplite is â€Å"commonly interpreted as the quintessential Greek heavy armed infantry man (Echeverria 2012:292). Originally, the hoplite soldiers were â€Å"generally expected to provide his own arms and armor† (Bertosa 2003:361). The Rime of the Ancient Mariner Free Essays

Death-in-Life means to be living in a constant fear or thought of death, or a feeling that the soul is damned but the body remains. Life-in-Death suggests the idea that the soul will continue but the body will deteriorate. In the poem â€Å"the Rime of the Ancient Mariner† by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the paradox of death-in-life and life-in-death is a consistent theme throughout this piece of literature. We will write a custom essay sample on The Rime of the Ancient Mariner or any similar topic only for you Order Now The sailor’s corpses, the constant aging of the mariner’s body and the gamble of death and life suggest this theme in Coleridge’s poem. When a person’s heart stops pumping blood, the average amount of time for the body to start decomposing is four to six days. This average is dependent upon the temperature the body is kept; if it is hot and in the sun the body will decompose much faster than in colder climates. In Coleridge’s poem the sailor’s bodies are in the sun for seven days, yet they refuse to be subjected to the ravages of time. â€Å"The many men so beautiful / and they all dead did lie / and a thousand thousand slimy things lived on; / and so did I / †¦ The cold sweat melted from their limbs / nor rot or reek did they: / the look with which they looked on me / had never passed away / †¦ Seven days, seven nights, / I saw that curse and yet could not die† (Coleridge, IV, 1817). The sailor’s corpses stay intact while their souls escape, leaving the mariner with the visible token of the living death that awaits. The wedding Guest proclaims to fear the Mariner because he looks so skinny and aged. â€Å"I fear thee and thy glittering eye, / And thy skinny hand, so brown. Fear not, fear not, thou Wedding-Guest! / This body dropt not down. / Alone, alone, all, all alone, / Alone on a wide wide sea! / And never a saint took pity on / My soul in agony† (Coleridge, IV, 1817). The Mariner explains that his soul is trapped in his body and his body will continue to age but will never rot enough to release his spirit. In â€Å"the Rime of the Ancient Mariner† the Mariner explains to the Wedding Guest of how his soul came to be doomed. He explains that when he was on the ship with his crew that he saw another ship approaching. This brought hope to the whole crew because they thought that their bodies were going to be saved. When the ship approached, the Mariner saw that it was Death and Life-in-Death. â€Å"Her lips were red, her looks were free, / Her locks were yellow as gold: / Her skin was as white as leprosy, / The Night-mare Life-in-Death was she, / Who thicks man’s blood with cold. / The naked hulk alongside came, / And the twain were casting dice; / ‘The game is done! I’ve won! I’ve won! ‘ / Quoth she, and whistles thrice† (Coleridge, III, 1817). With Life-in-Death’s three whistles she eliminates the sunlight and replaces it with dark shadows. She took the lives of the men on the ship, except for that of the Mariner’s. She cursed him with an eternity of living death. He is condemned to walk to the Earth and tell his tale to whomever will listen. The symbolic interpretation when death and life in death went to steal the Mariner’s soul; is that of arriving on a ship, when in biblical terms wood means death and water means life. Life in death ironically wins the soul of the mariner. In â€Å"the Rime of the Ancient Mariner† by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Death in Life and Life in Death is a constant contradicting theme throughout this metaphorical anecdote. The mythical preservation of the sailor’s bodies, the damnation of the Mariner’s soul, and the gamble between death and life-in-death truly remind the audience of this continuous theme. Proxemics Essays - Nonverbal Communication, Social Psychology

Proxemics Spacial Relations Spacial relations is a complex subject that can be interpreted in many different ways. A clear explanation of spatial relations is easily understood with the study of proxemics. So what is proxemics? Well the term proxemics came from E.T. Hall, a researcher in 1963. Proxemics is the study of the nature, degree, and effect of the spatial separation individuals naturally maintain (as in various social and interpersonal situations) and of how this separation relates to environmental and cultural factors. Proxemics is made up of featured spaces: fixed space, semi-fixed, and informal. Space around a person is set up into zones representing comfort and non-comfort. Fixed spaces are areas that are unmovable such as buildings and offices. Many simple things can change a comfortable zone in a fixed area such as color. The use of color can have a major impact on our comfort level. Restaurants, for example, focus on peoples comfort level with how they paint their buildings. Fast food such as McDonalds or Taco Bell cause people to rush in, eat fast, and leave without a nice place to sit down because of their bright colors. Bright colors are disturbing to the customers and even the workers. Other restaurants such as Ruby Tuesdays and Apple Bees stick with a nice color scheme that is both darker, mellow, and come off as a nice place to enjoy your food. Restaurants like these have a higher employee turnover than fast food in the food service industry. Semi-fixed spaces serves as movable areas such as furniture. Office desks can be organized to a persons comfort zone. Chairs and desks are just physical barriers but can be broken to protect personal space. As you might notice on a TV show or at a job interview, two chairs are usually always on an angle and no more than 1 ? feet from the main desk. This set up helps keep a balance of dominance. A person at a desk compared to a person standing in front of him may feel less dominant and unequal. Other areas of an office, such as lamps and filing cabinet are usually placed in the corners because small areas, like corners, make a person feel enclosed and small. Rearranging of furniture in an area helps keep balance over the persons personal space and semi-fixed spaces. Informal spaces is personal territory, and a big part of proxemics. Personal territory is made up of four categories: public, social, personal, and intimate. All of these spaces range differently in amount of space. For instance public spaces ranges from 12-25 feet. Social space ranges from 4-10 feet. Personal space ranges from 2-4 feet and intimate space ranges out to one foot and is used mostly while touching. Personal space, most commonly used, can vary both culturally and ethnically. In Saudi Arabia, their social space is equal to our intimate space. If we were to back away from a person, we would be known as rude. In the Netherlands, their social space is equal to our personal space. Anglos communicate with each other, usually maintaining a distance of 36 to 48 inches, while Hispanic tend to stand closer to each other at about l 8 inches. Anglos draw away during a conversation because they seem uncomfortable when they are too close to a conversation partner. The most widespread symbol of informal spaces across the world is a hand shake. For example, a handshake in Spain is usually a double grip, but to a German, it would cause confusion. Equally an even more stronger shake by a German would cause a Spaniard to get the idea of being over-friendly. Individuals perceive a distance that they feel is appropriate for different type of messages and personal interaction. A violation of such space can cause serious effects on communication. A result of violation of personal space is social anxiety. Social anxiety is the third largest psychological problem in the United States today. Social anxiety is the fear of social situations that involve interaction with others. Someone with social anxiety, for example, would feel uncomfortable with someone standing to close or thinking everyone is looking at them, and feeling self conscience. A person feeling this way relates back to personal space, and

Guide to Carbon Fiber Material

Guide to Carbon Fiber Material Carbon fiber is, exactly what it sounds like - fiber made of carbon. But, these fibers are only a base. What is commonly referred to as carbon fiber is a material consisting of very thin filaments of carbon atoms. When bound together with plastic polymer resin by heat, pressure or in a vacuum a composite material is formed that is both strong and lightweight. Much like cloth, beaver dams, or a rattan chair, the strength of carbon fiber is in the weave. The more complex the weave, the more durable the composite will be. It is helpful to imagine a wire screen that is interwoven with another screen at an angle, and another at a slightly different angle, and so on, with each wire in each screen made of carbon fiber strands. Now imagine this mesh of screens drenched in liquid plastic, and then pressed or heated until the material fuses together. The angle of the weave, as well as the resin used with the fiber, will determine the strength of the overall composite. The resin is most commonly epoxy, but can also be thermoplastic, polyurethane, vinyl ester, or polyester. DaveAlan/E/Getty Images Alternatively, a mold may be cast and the carbon fibers applied over it. The carbon fiber composite is then allowed to cure, often by a vacuum process. In this method, the mold is used to achieve the desired shape. This technique is preferred for uncomplicated forms that are needed on demand. Carbon fiber material has a wide range of applications, as it can be formed at various densities in limitless shapes and sizes. Carbon fiber is often shaped into tubing, fabric, and cloth, and can be custom-formed into any number of composite parts and pieces. Common Uses of Carbon Fiber High-end automobile componentsBicycle framesFishing rodsShoe solesBaseball batsProtective cases for laptops and iPhones The Apollo IE hypercar. Martyn Lucy/Getty Images   More exotic uses can be found in the: Aeronautics and aerospace industriesOil and gas industryUnmanned aerial vehiclesSatellitesFormula-1 race cars Some would argue, though, that the possibilities for carbon fiber are limited only by demand and the manufacturer’s imagination. Now, it’s even common to find carbon fiber in: Musical instrumentsFurnitureArtStructural elements of buildingsBridgesWind turbine blades   gilaxia/Getty Images If carbon fiber could be said to have any detractions, it would be production cost. Carbon fiber is not easily mass-produced and is therefore very expensive. A carbon fiber bicycle will easily run in the thousands of dollars, and its use in automotive is still limited to exotic racing cars. Carbon fiber is popular in these items and others are due to its weight-to-strength ratio and its resistance to flame, so much so that there is a market for synthetics that look like carbon fiber. However, imitations are often only partially carbon fiber or simply plastic made to look like carbon fiber. This occurs often in after-market protective casings for computers and other small consumer electronics. The upside is that carbon fiber parts and products, if not damaged, will almost literally last forever. This makes them a good investment for consumers, and also keeps products in circulation. For example, if a consumer is not willing to pay for a set of brand new carbon fiber golf clubs, there is a chance those clubs will be pop up on the secondary used market. Carbon fiber is often confused with fiberglass, and while there are similarities in manufacturing and some crossover in end products like furniture and automobile moldings, they are different. Fiberglass is a polymer that is reinforced with woven strands of silica glass rather than carbon. Carbon fiber composites are stronger, while fiberglass has more flexibility. And, both have various chemical compositions that make them better suited for different applications. Recycling carbon fiber is very difficult. The only available method for complete recycling is a process called thermal depolymerization, wherein the carbon fiber product is superheated in an oxygen-free chamber. The freed carbon can then be secured and reused, and whatever bonding or reinforced material that was used (epoxy, vinyl, etc.) is burned away. Carbon fiber can also be broken down manually at lower temperatures, but the resulting material will be weaker due to the shortened fibers, and thus likely not to be used in its most ideal application. For example, a large piece of tubing that is no longer being used may be split up, and the remaining parts used for computer casings, briefcases or furniture. Carbon fiber is an incredibly useful material used in composites, and it will continue to grow manufacturing market share. As more methods of producing carbon fiber composites economically are developed, the price will continue to fall, and more industries will take advantage of this unique material.

It also includes short-term investments and cash equivalents. In order to know aspects of the revenue cycle of an entity the auditor looks at the general ledger, which is a primary source of financial data and with the internal controls this figures should be accurate and true. For mobile streams plc the revenue cycle may comprise of sales account, trade payables and receivables account, other incomes account, cash and cash equivalents and stock ( Georgiades, 2006, 22). Audit procedures are the tests that the auditor carries out to ascertain that the revenue is stated correctly. The auditor must understand the industry that the company belongs to and this will enable him make a comparison to see if the figures are correct. Audit procedures involve designing the tests that will be carried out on the accounts, gathering the evidence, evaluating the results of the tests, and finally making decisions on the whether the evidence is sufficient. The procedures can be classified into risk assessment and further audit procedures such as test controls and substantive procedures. The overall objective of the audit will determine the risk assessment, test controls, and substantive procedures to be used (Cangemi , & Singleton, 2003 p. 272) Risk assessment involves finding out the inherent risks associated with the transactions and this information is obtained from the financial statement and accounts and assumptions level of the company. One can also source inherent risks from the strength and weaknesses of the Internal control system or form carrying out analytical procedures. An example of inherent risk is timing of the revenue recognition and it should be guided by professional rules like IASB. Example of a test control to ascertain the validity of the revenue would be to look at

After clearly point out the research problem of the study, the research objectives to be accomplish and the research questions to be answered are discuss in the following as well. Hypotheses are developed from the proposed theoretical framework. Next section will be significance of study which briefly explain the importance and the contributions of this study. Last section will be briefly outlines each chapter of the research report. The state of the airline industry is truculent currently and the demand has decrease sharply caused by many factors which is affected to the Airline Company. Besides that, the global airline industry has forecast of deeper loss according to the international air transport association. In recent years airline industry has been suffering from severe turbulence and faced its longest deepest crisis. However, at the macro-economic level Asia Pacific growth is impressive because Asian carriers led profitability with US$1.5 billion while other region are struggling such as US or European carrier lost in US billion. In the region operating margins averaged less than 2%, still the best performance in the world but most are below the 7% to 8% needed to cover the cost of capital and give investors an acceptable return. Initially, the crisis caused by the downturn of economic crisis, the external shocks such as the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, and the SARS epidemic. The industry economic impact is estimated at RM 11.9 trillion, which is about 7.5% of the world gross domestic product annum. However, according to the the total passenger traffic in airline industry has expanded rapidly with increasingly by 5% between 2000 and 2005, with an actual drop in 2001. (WTO, 2007). The development of air transport is an important foreign exchange earner in the service sector and developing comprehensive network of airport to facilitate trade, tourism and speed up socio-economic development. In Malaysia, the Malaysia Airport Berhad was incorporated in year 1991 focuses on operation and management. Malaysia airport has continually restructured and able to operate the airport with expensively business direction recently. In addition, the airline service in Malaysia consists of the domestic and international. The international airport in Malaysia only located in certain states which are in Kuala Lumpur (KLIA), Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. Some of the domestic airports are located in every other state such as Perak, Kedah, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak. There are four different types of the airline companies in Malaysia such as Malaysia Airline System which is MAS, Air Asia, Firefly and Berjaya-Air. Furthermore, these airline companies are in different position and they are using different strategy to target different group of customer. There are three different type of Airline Business Model in Malaysia such as full-service carriers, low-cost carriers and charter carriers. Full-service carrier like MAS is defined as an airline company developed from the former state-owned flag carrier, through the market deregulation process into an airline company. On the other hand, low-cost carrier like Air Asia and Fire-Fly is defined as a low fare or no-frills airline, and they are designed to have a competitive advantage in term of costs over a full-service carrier. Lastly, charter carrier like Berjaya-Air is defined as the airline company that operates flights outside normal schedules, by a hiring arrangement with a particular customer. The only function is to transport holidaymakers to tourist destinations. Due to the decrease of growth rate and revenue, airline companies in Malaysia are having a high competition in order to acquire and retain the customers. Therefore, the primary competitive weapon that Airline Company used is the price. Besides that, they need to search more other ways to increase their service quality and product differentiation to obtain the market advantage. The strategies that Airline Company adopted are the implementation of capacity controls, differentiated pricing by market segment, frequently flyer programs, and improving on-time performance to induce passengers repurchase intention. Hence, the airline industrys competition is very fierce. In order to gain competitive advantage, the important factor is improving the airline service quality to the passengers. According to the Ostrowski et al (1993) shows that airline could acquire and retain their customer loyalty if they are continuing to provide perceived high quality services. As the conclusion, Airline Company provides the superior service quality is important and it is the main agenda for all airlines in order to remain competitive. Key Players in Malaysia Airline Industry International Airline Company Local Airline Company Jetstar Asia Airways Malaysia Airline System Cathay Pacific Air Asia Bangkok Airways Fire-Fly China Airlines Berjaya-Air Air Japan Airfast Indonesia Vietnam Airlines Korean Air 1.2 Problem Statement Travel is the dream for every people as it can let people to achieve a relaxing mood and explore to the world wide. With the needs of people to travel around the world, it helps airline industry to continue expand their business. However, many external factors have been affecting the airline industry hard to perform well. At year 2009, economic crisis lowered the purchasing power of traveler. People try to save their money and reduce the frequency of travelling. This has cause the sales performance of airline industry decrease dramatically. Besides, the diseases such as SARS and H1N1 have been frightening the people to travel to another country. People rather stay at home for their health purpose. Political stability of one country also becomes an important factor lead to the willingness of people to travel. The unstable political condition such as Thailand will cause people not to travel to that certain country. The external factors are giving a big impact on the sales performance of an airline company. The highly competitive of airline industry after the entrance of AirAsia Airline in year 2001 caused the airline company need to use more strategies to attract the customer. At the first, Malaysia Airline monopoly the airline industry which there is no other airline company competes with it. Since AirAsia Airline enter into the market offering the low cost air flight to the customer has been making the airline industry become more competitive. In order to retain the customer Malaysia Airline also tries to promote their air flight ticket at lower price at non peak season to attract the customer. Nevertheless, customer still switches between Malaysia Airline and AirAsia Airline often. This in turn means low cost air fares does not increase the customer satisfaction to continue patronage to the particular airline company. We need to discover the factor which to enhance the customer satisfaction in order loyal to only one airline company. There is lack of research from the past studies towards the factor which can increase the satisfaction of air flight passengers. Therefore, we need to do this research in order to figure out the factor that cause the customers satisfy with the service quality of airline service. Research Objective The purpose of the investigation of this study can be divided into two categories which are general objective and specific objectives as below: General Objective The objective of this study is to determine the relative impact of three dimensions of service quality (reliability and customer service, convenience and accessibility, and in-flight service); airline image and passengers satisfaction on repurchase intention among Malaysian airline passengers. Specific Objective To examine the impact of service quality in term of reliability and customer service, convenience and accessibility, and in-flight service toward passengers satisfaction and airline image. The Potential Market for Apple Ipad in the Uk

The Potential Market for Apple iPad in the UK Table of contents 1. 0Introduction3 2. 0Creative thinking3 3. 0Recommendations for successfully marketing iPad in the UK3 4. 0Conclusion4 References5 1. 0 Introduction After iSlate and iGuide, iPad as another tablet-shaped computer was launched by Apple. The various applications of the iPad are very attractive for customers, but it also has some shortcomings including high price and the same user interface as iPhone. The company prepares to set foot in the UK market. The purpose of this report is to identify how the iPad can be successfully marketed in the UK.Firstly, the main body of the report will briefly introduce creative thinking. Then, it will present the approaches for marketing iPad in the UK successfully. After that, it will make a conclusion in a few words. 2. 0 Creative thinking Creative thinking plays a significant part in constantly increasing the amounts of human knowledge, improving perceptivity of human being, as well as opening up new situation for practice. Creativity is the basis for generating innovation which is favorable to improve organizational competitiveness in the marketplace (Amabile, et al, 1996).It can be seen that creative thinking plays a significant role in the success or failure of new product or services in the market. Innovation can be driven by leadership, people management, knowledge management, and creativity management (Prajogo and Ahmed, 2006). The sources of creativity and innovation are people including customers, specialists, groups and teams, as well as individuals. Apple can be regarded as an innovative firm. Its innovation capacity comes from innovative chief executive. How to market its products creatively is very crucial for the success of product sales, which ill be discussed in the next section. 3. 0 Recommendations for successfully marketing iPad in the UK Marketing is the root for the survival and development of an organization. Over time, a large number of marke ting approaches come to the market, including relationship marketing, direct marketing, service marketing, internet marketing, international marketing and brand marketing and so on. Successful product marketing should attach much importance to many aspects such as market demand, customer preference, price, and marketing mix and etc.The following paragraphs will suggest ways how the iPad can be marketed successfully in the UK. In order to successfully marketing product or services in a new market, the first and most important thing for an organization to do is market research. In this way, the organization can better meet customer demands and preferences by analyzing market researching findings. In general, market research consists of four steps, that is, gathering the data, integrating the evidence, unraveling the insight, and telling the story (Rawlinson, 1970).It is known that iPhone has obtained remarkable success in the market. Owing to this, iPad has already employed the iPhone -style user interface (Johnson and Arthur, 2010). It is apparently that iPad is not creative in this aspect as a result of passive consumption. For successfully marketing, the company must attempt to persuade consumers to accept the uncommonness of the product. The key lies in how to promote its advantages overwhelming its advantages. As a whole, the company must explain clearly about the creation of the product so as to attract the attention of consumers.Otherwise, the marketing of the iPad will suffer from the impediment or even resistance from consumers. In the next place, marketing strategy is one of important factors to help the organization to remain invincible in the increasingly dramatic market competition. The iPad can provide numerous applications for customers but not only limited to web browsing, email and reading e-books (Johnson and Arthur, 2010). At the beginning, Apple did not make a price for iPad in the UK market. However, according to the surveys, a great many cus tomers in theUK reveal that iPad is excessively expensive (Harvey, 2010). It can be seen that cost is a key factor to determine if iPad can be successfully marketed in the UK. On one hand, the company should employ appropriately pricing strategy. Pricing strategies include skimming, market pricing and penetration pricing (Sutton-Brady and Beal, 2008). It is obviously that the UK is a new potential market for Apple. The key for the survival of the company in the new market is to stimulate market and capture market share. For this reason, penetration pricing strategy should be adopted by the company. On the other hand, the company should attempt to reduce cost as much as possible by all means. The last but not the least, promotional methods are also of great importance to the sales of products. Traditional promotional mix mainly includes the elements such as advertising, personnel selling, direct marketing, sales promotion, and public relation. Among them, advertising is an important t ool for marketing at any time. Both mature and blind consumers will be guided by the advertisement. What’s more, the returns from advertising are also impressive at short notice. In addition, public relation makes great contribution to corporate image and marketing. However, with the development of media technology, the promotional mix is taking place great changes. Moreover, the communication has already gone through four ages from interruption, entertainment, engagement to dialogue. From this aspect, it can be said that the iPad has already done a good job for media in different sectors including print and publishing, television, and advertising (Arthur, Anderson and Sweney, 2010). It has satisfied the customer demands on entertainment and engagement.According to the statistics, 70% of the content of the web will be user generated until 2010 (Daugherty, Eastin and Bright, 2008). From this, it can be seen that it is very important for an organization to interact with customer s. For this reason, customer engagement and interaction should be embodied in every link of marketing. The advertising ideas of iPad will be multiplatform rather than the â€Å"big TV campaign† mentality; furthermore, it will develop creative advertising ideas by a spectrum of consumer engagement (Arthur, Anderson and Sweney, 2010).From the perspective of public relation, traditional public relation messaging techniques may not be perceived as authentic any more. On the contrary, the company should regard user reviews and comments as the new word of mouth. Their messages will become the critical factors to improve the leadership of Apple in the UK market. 4. 0 Conclusion To sum up, marketing is extremely important for the development and expansion of an organization. The report has firstly introduced a little about creative thinking. Then, it has demonstrated how the iPad can be successfully marketed in the UK.Firstly, the company needs to conduct market research and make cor respondingly responses by market analysis. Secondly, the company is necessary to formulate appropriately pricing strategy. Thirdly, the company must focus on the interaction with customers in the age of media technology.
